Welcome to Whitney's Physical Education program. Physical education programs should help students develop a lifelong commitment to their own physical well being health, and fitness, with clear emphasis on a variety of physical activities and an active lifestyle. An effective physical education program balances and contributes to a student's academic learning.
Mondays. Uniform checks will be conducted routinely on Mondays. Soiled
uniforms will result in a loss of points. If a student forgets his/her P.E.
clothes, loaners are available from Rita, our locker room attendant, three loaners per semester. Each students name must be clearly marked with permanent marker in the following way year round :
- Whitney H.S. T-shirt: First name only
- Whitney H.S. shorts: Last name only
- Tied athletic shoes with no platform heels
- White or black socks

OPTIONAL; Black, grey or white sweats may be worn under uniform in cold
weather (under 70 F)
CITIZENSHIP
Each student is to play fair, demonstrate good sportsmanship, have a
positive attitude, and refrain from put-downs or foul language. Please respect the
rights and individuality of each person in your class. A safe, quiet,
positive learning environment is of utmost importance. Any student losing points
for improper citizenship more than three times in any given semester will
receive an unsatisfactory grade.
LOCKS AND LOCKERS
Students are encouraged not to share their locker combinations with anyone
else! If a stuent forgets his/her combination see Rita, she has a record of all locks,
lockers and a master key. It is each students responsibility to keep all their
belongings locked up in a long locker during class time. If you leave your
stuff out and someone else tampers with it, you will both be given
consequences for not accepting your personal responsibility.
PARTICIPATION
If a student is unable to participate in P.E. due to illness or injury, he/she
should bring a note from a parent. If you forget your note or your injury or
illness occurs after leaving home that day, it is your responsibility to
communicate your condition to your teacher during roll. You may bring your note the
very next day. Any student who cannot participate for more than three days
must bring a doctor’s note. The doctor’s note should be specific about what
activities are not allowed. Your teacher will modify your participation
accordingly. Students can receive two participation points; participation includes progressive improvement on
the daily run, stretches and calisthenics performed each day.
ATTENDANCE
Students will be allowed up to three school business absences per quarter
without losing any points. If a student is absent for any other reason,
including excused legal absences they are required to make up the points lost .
Each student earns two points per day. For each tardy students will lose one
point. Students with a perfect point standing will receive rewards on
Fridays. Students who lose points and then make them up will be given make-up
credit toward their grade, but will have lost their perfect point standing for
rewards.

P. E. CLASS RULES
1.This is your activity class. Our objective is to connect you to the ‘VERB’
of your choice. Let’s start with the verb (To Be)

- BE PRODUCTIVE
- BE POLITE
2. All backpacks, books and personal belongings brought to P.E. must be
locked in a P.E. locker during class time. WHS staff is not responsible for
any items that are lost or stolen.
3. Students should be sitting quietly on their assigned numbers five
minutes after class starts. Remain on your numbers until you are instructed by
your teacher to begin physical activity. Any parent or doctors’ notes, or
reasons why you may not be able to participate that day should be communicated to
the teacher at this time.
4. Leave all equipment in the P.E. cart until after roll. Only designated team
captains will be allowed to remove equipment from the cart . Bringing
equipment back to the cart at the end of class is everyone’s responsibility . The
entire class will be given a consequence if a single piece of equipment is
left out.
5. No eating, drinking (except water), or chewing gum is allowed in the
P. E. area or during class time.

P.E. UNIFORM
Students should wear only their own uniforms. Sharing, borrowing or using
anyone else’s uniform will result in a loss of points. P. E. uniforms need to
be taken home on Fridays and brought back clean on
MAKE-UP POINTS- There are three ways to make-up points. All make-up points
will go into the attendance and participation category.
-Written Reports
-Running laps
-Extra credit
GRADING
There will be three categories for the overall grade. Each category will be
calculated separately, the sum of all three categories will compose the
overall quarter grade. Make-up points can not be transferred from one category
to the other. The two quarter grades will be averaged to compose the
semester grade.
90-100=A ATTENDANCE AND PARTICIPATION=80%
80-89=B WRITTEN ASSIGNMENTS =10%
70-79=C ASSESSMENT OF SKILLS
LEARNED OR IMPROVED=10%
60-69=D
50-59=F
