Department Goals:
Students will develop a life-long commitment to their own health and fitness
Students will develop proficient motor skills in individual and team activities
Students will participate in moderate to vigorous physical activity at least four days each week
Students will evaluate and refine personal goals to improve performance in physical activities
Students will develop interpersonal skills such as leadership, teamwork and a sense of fair play

Grading:
Grades are based on attendance, proper dress, participation, effort, improvement and citizenship

Grading Scale:
90-100%=A, 80-89%=B, 70-79%=C, 60-69%=D, 0-59%=F

Points:
Students earn three points per day: one point for attendance, one point for proper uniform, and one point for participation. Rewards may be offered on Fridays if no points have been lost during the quarter.

Attendance:
Students must be dressed in uniform and sitting on their roll number five minutes after the bell rings to begin class. For each tardy, the student will lose one point. Up to three excused absences per quarter will be allowed without losing points.

Participation:
Students are expected to participate fully in all P.E. activities. If a student cannot participate due to illness or injury, he/she must bring a note from home explaining why. If a student cannot participate for more than three days, a doctor’s note is required explaining the nature and duration of the restriction.

Citizenship:
All students are expected to demonstrate good sportsmanship, have a positive attitude, and give their best effort every day. No put-downs or foul language will be tolerated. Poor behavior may result in a loss of participation points and a lowered citizenship grade.

Uniforms:
Students must wear only their own uniforms. These may be purchased from the gym attendant, and they must be taken home and washed every Friday. Students who forget their uniform may borrow “loaners,” but they will lose one point each day until they bring back their own clothes and return the loaners. Students’ names must be clearly written with permanent marker on their P.E.

Uniform:
Whitney T-shirt: First name and last initial
Whitney shorts: Last name and first initial
Shoes: Athletic shoes with laces and socks must be worn
Optional: Black, grey or white sweats may be work under uniform in cold weather (under 70 degrees), or for religious reasons

Lockers:
Each student has his/her own small locker with a combination lock. That lock should be placed on the corresponding long locker during class time, and then placed back on the small locker. Students are not to share their combination with anyone. If you forget your combination, see the gym attendant. All backpacks, books and personal possessions must be locked in your locker during class time. WHS staff is not responsible for lost or stolen property.

Rules:
*No eating, drinking (except water), or chewing gum is allowed in the P.E. area or during class time.
*Do not touch P.E. equipment until after roll is taken. Then only designated team captains may remove equipment. All equipment must be returned at the end of the period or the entire class will be given consequences.
*The locker room is for changing clothes only. Do not loiter or play around in the locker room.
*Students must remain on roll numbers until given further instructions from their teacher.
*Always demonstrate good sportsmanship and a positive attitude toward fellow classmates.

Violation of these rules may result in the following consequences at the discretion of the teacher:
*Verbal warning
*Time away from group or activity
*Loss of a point or a reward
*Parent notification
*Detention
